About The Study: In this cohort study of opioid-naive patients with acute pain, opioid use was generally low dose and of short duration, although some patients reported prolonged opioid use; most reported achieving pain resolution within 3 weeks, with longer times for surgical and low back pain. The findings suggest current guidelines for multimodal treatment and for short-duration opioid prescriptions if needed will serve many but not all patients, and treatment should be tailored to address individual patients’ needs.
