Inoculation with the rhizobacterium Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens P9 improved peanut growth and physiological performance under drought stress, supported recovery after rewatering and increased pod yield and quality at maturation, according to an experimental study summarized in BMC Plant Biology.

Researchers examined P9 inoculation across drought stress, post-drought rewatering and maturation stages, combining measurements of plant growth, physiology and fruit development with transcriptomic and rhizosphere microbiome analyses. The abstract reports that inoculated plants experienced less drought-associated oxidative damage and greater root-system development. Molecular responses involved antioxidant defense systems, hormone signal-transduction pathways, transcription-factor networks, and phenylpropanoid and flavonoid biosynthesis pathways.

During rewatering, P9 inoculation was associated with faster recovery, including improved restoration of photosynthesis and changes in carbon-metabolism programming. The rhizosphere microbial community was also described as continuously reshaped across the tested stages, with enrichment of functional taxa associated with nutrient cycling and yield formation. The study further reported greater soil availability of nutrients in inoculated treatments, linking these microbial and soil measurements with the observed drought resistance, recovery and yield performance.

The evidence supplied here is limited to the study abstract rather than the full experimental report, so details such as the experimental design, sample size, effect sizes, statistical uncertainty and environmental conditions could not be assessed. The published version is an early peer-reviewed article that remains subject to further edits, and the abstract does not establish whether P9 will produce similar outcomes across other peanut varieties, soils or growing environments.

Subject of Research: Effects of Tsukamurella tyrosinosolvens P9 inoculation on drought tolerance, recovery and pod performance in peanut.
