Metis operates as a comprehensive ecosystem, bringing together premier academic, healthcare, and corporate institutions, including The University of Texas Medical Branch, Rice University, Memorial Hermann Health System, and Accenture. Key steering members also feature bp, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and influential leaders such as Eric Mullins. The Center for Houston’s Future orchestrates the day-to-day operations of Metis, ensuring cohesive progress across its multifaceted workstreams. West Health is set to co-chair a new and critical health systems transformation workstream that aims at embedding brain health care directly within existing healthcare infrastructures.

The integration of brain health into health systems represents a complex scientific and operational challenge, touching on neurodegenerative disease management, behavioral health, cognitive decline prevention, and mental health support. West Health’s approach leverages a data-driven and evidence-based model to create scalable brain health interventions. Their previous success at Northwestern Medicine involved one of the largest deployments of integrated behavioral health services within a single health system, emphasizing the translation of neuroscience advancements into everyday clinical practice. This integration ensures that brain health breakthroughs pass beyond research labs to deliver tangible outcomes for patients and communities.

The transformation of health systems to prioritize brain health is consequential not just for clinical outcomes but also for workforce productivity and economic sustainability. According to West Health President Tim Lash, brain health care advancements reverberate through society by enabling early diagnosis of cognitive impairments and timely interventions that keep individuals, especially aging populations, engaged in the workforce and community.
