Beijing, China, and Springfield, USA — In a landmark development for the global academic publishing ecosystem, Tsinghua University Press (TUP) and the American Institute of Mathematical Sciences Press (AIMS) have formalized a strategic partnership to bring twelve of AIMS’s distinguished STM (Science, Technology, and Medicine) journals to SciOpen, a pioneering digital publishing platform launched by Tsinghua University Press. This groundbreaking collaboration, set to commence in early 2025, marks a significant milestone in digital scholarly communication and international research dissemination, promising to reshape access to high-impact scientific literature worldwide.

SciOpen represents a cutting-edge initiative in digital publishing, designed to democratize access to scientific knowledge by extending free online availability of scholarly content across diverse disciplines. By hosting a selection of AIMS’s flagship journals, SciOpen enriches its repository with high-caliber research articles in English, spanning mathematical and applied sciences domains. The integrated portfolio now includes prestigious journals such as AIMS Mathematics, Communications in Analysis and Mechanics, Mathematics in Engineering, Electronic Research Archive, Networks and Heterogeneous Media, AIMS Agriculture and Food, AIMS Energy, AIMS Environmental Science, AIMS Geosciences, AIMS Materials Science, Mathematical Modelling and Control, and AIMS Electronics and Electrical Engineering, covering a vast array of interdisciplinary fields.

Each of these journals is meticulously curated and indexed by esteemed international databases such as the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), and Scopus, which underscores their scholarly significance and the rigorous peer-review standards they uphold. The move to SciOpen not only enhances the visibility and accessibility of articles but also aligns with the global trend of open-access publishing, facilitating barrier-free dissemination of knowledge and fostering collaborative innovation in STEM fields.

The quantitative scale of this initiative is remarkable, with over 2,000 peer-reviewed articles now accessible through the SciOpen platform, offering researchers, educators, practitioners, and policy-makers worldwide an unprecedented portal to cutting-edge discoveries and theoretical advances. This seamless integration leverages SciOpen’s robust digital infrastructure, which encompasses sophisticated manuscript processing, comprehensive content hosting, advanced analytics, and identity management systems designed to optimize scholarly communication workflows.

Lei Shi, Director of the Journal Publishing Center at Tsinghua University Press, articulated the strategic vision behind this collaboration: “The alliance with AIMS empowers SciOpen to deliver high-impact scientific content to an expansive international scholarly community. Our AI-enhanced platform ensures that groundbreaking research published by AIMS journals transcends geographic and linguistic barriers, enriching global knowledge networks and stimulating cross-disciplinary interaction.”

From the perspective of the American Institute of Mathematical Sciences, this partnership epitomizes an opportunity to amplify the global footprint of its journals. Dr. Shouchuan Hu, a Director at AIMS, highlighted the potential benefits: “By joining forces with Tsinghua University Press and SciOpen, we anticipate a substantial increase in the reach and influence of our journals. This is a crucial step for connecting authors and readers worldwide, expanding collaborative opportunities, and enhancing the impact of scientific advances in both theoretical and applied arenas.”

This collaboration is situated within a broader movement that recognizes the transformative power of open-access publishing to accelerate scientific progress and global knowledge equity. By integrating rigorous peer review with unrestricted online availability, journals hosted on SciOpen ensure the highest standards of academic validity while maximizing readership and citation potential across continents and disciplines.

Tsinghua University Press, founded in 1980 as part of one of China’s premier research universities, has steadily evolved into a leading academic publishing house with a robust portfolio of sixty journals, forty of which are published in English and twenty indexed by SCIE and ESCI. The launch of SciOpen in 2022 signals TUP’s commitment to embracing digital transformation and fostering innovations that meet the evolving needs of the international research community.

AIMS, established in 1995, has established itself as a distinguished academic institution promoting the advancement of mathematical and applied sciences through its dedicated publications and conferences. Its journals consistently embody high-quality, peer-reviewed research, many of which have been recognized by major indexing services. The commitment to open-access principles ensures that AIMS publications remain widely accessible, supporting the dissemination of frontier research in both foundational sciences and interdisciplinary applications.

The inclusion of AIMS’s journals on SciOpen offers myriad technological advantages inherent to the platform, including AI-driven content discovery, seamless manuscript submission processes, transparent peer-review tracking, and integrated expert advisory services. These features collectively enhance author engagement, streamline editorial workflows, and provide readers with personalized, data-driven insights into emerging trends within their fields.

Moreover, this partnership catalyzes the convergence of eastern and western scholarly traditions, cultivating a synergistic environment for scientific exchange and innovation. By bridging geographical and cultural divides, TUP and AIMS effectively contribute to a more interconnected and dynamic global research ecosystem governed by transparency, accessibility, and academic excellence.

In the context of scientific communication’s evolution, the collaboration highlights the crucial role of technology-enhanced platforms like SciOpen in addressing long-standing challenges related to limited accessibility, paywalls, and fragmented publishing landscapes. It demonstrates a forward-looking model where institutions collaboratively harness digital infrastructure to build inclusive knowledge repositories that serve the needs of diverse academic populations.

Researchers, educators, and industry professionals can now rely on SciOpen as a centralized access point for authoritative journals across applied sciences, engineering, mathematics, and allied disciplines, fostering interdisciplinary dialogues essential for tackling complex, real-world problems. The ongoing expansion of SciOpen’s offerings illustrates the broader commitment of TUP and AIMS to open science principles, helping to accelerate discovery and promote equitable knowledge dissemination.

As the global scientific community increasingly embraces open-access frameworks to maximize the societal impact of research, the TUP-AIMS partnership stands as a beacon of progressive publishing paradigms. This initiative not only advances the digital presence of AIMS’s journals but also reinforces SciOpen’s stature as a leading platform supporting the convergence of innovation, scholarship, and technological progress.
