The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the National Innovation Center par Excellence (NICE) have entered a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 2, 2026, establishing a robust strategic framework designed to foster collaboration in technology innovation, applied research, commercialization, and talent development. The formal signing occurred during the inaugural day of the Global Industrial Technology Innovation Conference held in Shanghai. The ceremony was officiated by Professor Alice Wong, Associate Vice-President (Research) of HKU, alongside Qing Liu, President of NICE, highlighting the high-level endorsement and shared vision underpinning this alliance. Such a collaboration embodies a conduit for synergistic advancement, aiming to consolidate technological innovation capabilities and industrial research and development prowess across these two pivotal regions.

Professor Alice Wong emphasized the strategic significance of the partnership, noting that HKU sees it as a vital progression towards its overarching mission of transforming world-class research into impactful real-world applications. She highlighted the Yangtze River Delta’s status as a leading innovation and manufacturing powerhouse, featuring an advanced industrial base synergized with an intricate mesh of industrial networks and a mature entrepreneurial ecosystem. Qing Liu, President of NICE, underscored the value of HKU’s global prestige and research vigor, expressing a keen enthusiasm to embed HKU’s innovative impetus into the industrial fabric of the Yangtze River Delta.
