Dirk Leuffen Elected as New Rector of the University of Konstanz, Pioneering a Future of Interdisciplinary Excellence
In a landmark decision on July 10, 2026, the Senate and University Council of the University of Konstanz jointly elected Professor Dirk Leuffen as the institution’s next rector. Leuffen, currently serving as Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Impact, will assume his six-year term in spring 2027, succeeding Rector Katharina Holzinger. Holzinger’s tenure concludes in February 2027 following the university’s mandatory retirement policy.
Leuffen brings a wealth of academic and administrative experience to his new role. His leadership as Vice Rector—spanning 2015 to 2019 and resuming in 2024—has been instrumental in advancing university research infrastructure and fostering early career scholars. Outside the university, Leuffen engages in governance roles that influence research training and evaluation, including participation in the committees for International Max Planck Research Schools and membership on the University Council of Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen.
