Keck Medicine of USC Expands Outpatient Services in Pasadena

In a transformative development for healthcare accessibility in Pasadena, Keck Medicine of USC has inaugurated its largest and most advanced outpatient facility at 590 S. Fair Oaks Ave. This new medical office building marks a significant milestone in the organization’s mission to extend high-quality healthcare services to the community. The facility not only represents a substantial increase in care capacity—doubling the previous offerings in the area—but also showcases the state-of-the-art technology and clinical expertise that Keck Medicine is renowned for.

The expansion is strategically located within the emerging biotechnology and biomedical corridor of Fair Oaks Avenue, an area that is rapidly becoming a hub for health innovation and technology. This is not merely a physical expansion; it symbolizes Keck Medicine’s commitment to enhancing community health outcomes. As Beong-Soo Kim, interim president of USC, articulated, this new facility serves as a vital resource for the local population, ensuring that a broader segment of the community gains access to first-rate medical care.

The new facility, spanning four stories and encompassing 100,000 square feet, is designed with patient comfort and well-being in mind. Each floor is replete with windows that allow natural light to saturate the interior spaces, providing a welcoming atmosphere conducive to healing and recovery. This design ethos reflects a modern understanding of how environment and aesthetics can influence patient care, promoting a sense of tranquility and comfort that is essential in medical settings.

In addition to enhancing physical access to health services, the Pasadena location significantly improves the accessibility of specialized medical care. The outpatient center will provide patients with the opportunity to consult with many of the same esteemed physicians who practice at Keck Medical Center of USC. This includes specialists affiliated with esteemed institutions such as the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, recognized as a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute, and the USC Cardiac and Vascular Institute, which has a history of providing care for professional athletes from organizations like USC Athletics and the LA Kings.

One of the key elements of this expansion is its integration into USC’s educational mission. The facility is poised to serve as a vital training ground for medical students, residents, and fellows, allowing them to gain invaluable clinical experience under the supervision of seasoned professionals. This focus on education enhances the value of the facility, embedding a culture of learning and innovation in daily operations that benefits both patients and aspiring healthcare providers.

The commitment to sustainability is another hallmark of the new facility. Keck Medicine is pursuing LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. This prestigious accolade is awarded to buildings that meet rigorously high standards for environmental performance and sustainable practices. Features such as the use of sustainable materials, energy-efficient systems, and on-site renewable energy generation are set to form the backbone of the facility’s operation. Achieving such certification underscores Keck Medicine’s broader commitment to not just healthcare, but also to the principles of environmental stewardship and public health.

Patients can expect a wide array of services consolidating many aspects of their healthcare needs under one roof. From routine imaging services to specialized treatments for chronic conditions, the facility aims to streamline the patient experience. This integration is particularly essential in today’s healthcare landscape, where patients often navigate complex care journeys that involve multiple providers and settings. By offering over 15 clinical specialties all in one location, Keck Medicine significantly reduces the burden on patients, making healthcare more accessible and convenient.

Some of the critical services available at the new facility include allergy services, comprehensive cancer care, advanced cardiac services, orthopedic surgery, and pain management. Each of these specialties represents a critical component of healthcare offerings that cater to a broad spectrum of health needs, ensuring that the community can receive high-quality care without having to travel long distances.

Moreover, the establishment of an Ambulatory Surgery Center and dedicated diagnostic imaging facilities enhances the spectrum of services accessible at the Pasadena location. These facilities allow for a diverse range of procedures and diagnostic evaluations to occur on-site, promoting efficiency and improving patient satisfaction.

While the new Pasadena facility will enhance the healthcare available in that area, Keck Medicine continues to operate its original clinic at 625 S. Fair Oaks Ave., which will maintain a focus on different specialties such as brain health, bariatric medicine, endocrinology, and general dermatology. This dual approach allows Keck Medicine to cater to diverse patient needs while enhancing the overall quality of care available in Pasadena.

Keck Medicine, as an integral part of USC, stands as one of the only two university-based healthcare systems within the Los Angeles area. Its recognition as one of the top hospitals in the country across various specialties reinforces the commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare. The accolades from U.S. News & World Report, which ranks Keck Medical Center among the top 50 hospitals nationwide, serve as a testament to the institute’s pursuit of excellence and its ongoing efforts to innovate and improve patient care.

In an era where healthcare accessibility and quality are paramount concerns, the opening of this new outpatient facility represents a beacon of hope for Pasadena residents. By expanding the footprint of high-quality medical services, Keck Medicine is not only addressing the immediate healthcare needs of the community but is also laying the groundwork for future advancements in health education, technology, and patient care. The expansion heralds a new chapter in Pasadena’s healthcare landscape, one that prioritizes community health and well-being as an integral part of its mission.
