Climate change, biodiversity, infectious diseases, sustainability, and the associated socio-economic impacts are among the areas of greatest global concern. The SIAM Conference on Mathematics of Planet Earth (MPE24) provides a forum for interdisciplinary researchers to discuss mathematical, statistical, and computational strategies for addressing these problems. The discussion at MPE24 will range from the development of quantitative techniques and algorithms to providing policy makers with tools for qualitative decision support.

This year, MPE24 is especially interested in sessions and presentations that address fundamental and applied questions in

earth system modeling, hurricanes, erosion, earthquakes, sea ice, sea level rise, earth system sensing, carbon sequestration and storage, earth resources, agriculture, geoengineering, renewable energy harvesting, sub-seasonal forecasting, weather, ocean and climate dynamics, ecosystem modeling, sustainability, conservation, adaptation, mitigation, hazards, pollution events and clean-up, disasters, water and food security, transportation, and infectious diseases,

by the development and utilization of applied mathematics and new quantitative methods in

deep learning, data-driven modeling, numerical analysis, dynamical systems, probabilistic modeling, uncertainty quantification, reduced-order-modeling, Bayesian estimation, data assimilation, closure modeling, rare events theory, optimization, control and decision theory, autonomy, risk management, visualization, supercomputing, and system theory and engineering.

Other advances directly relevant to MPE themes are also most welcome.

MPE24 is co-located with the SIAM Conference on the Life Sciences (LS24) to provide an even broader forum for the exchange of ideas between scientists dedicated to improving the lives of all species which exist on our planet. The conference will gather interdisciplinary researchers from academia, industry, and national laboratories to tackle these complex and challenging problems.
