PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA – February 4, 2026 – On World Cancer Day, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®), a premier consortium of major cancer centers in the United States, alongside the NCCN Foundation®, announced a strategic enhancement to their cancer patient educational resources. This initiative marks a milestone in cancer education, as NCCN commits to delivering annual updates to its extensive array of free patient guides, now available in multiple languages including English and Spanish. This effort aims to empower patients and caregivers by providing timely, accurate, and accessible information that supports shared decision-making in cancer care.

World Cancer Day serves as a global platform to raise awareness on cancer prevention, detection, and treatment, orchestrated under the aegis of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), of which NCCN is a valued member. This year represents the continuation of the impactful “United by Unique” campaign, emphasizing the individuality of every cancer patient’s experience while uniting them through reliable and comprehensive information. The NCCN’s new approach recognizes that personalized knowledge is vital to navigating the complexities of cancer treatment effectively.

Dr. Crystal S. Denlinger, CEO of NCCN, highlighted the commitment to annual updates, stating, “Cancer care is rapidly evolving, and ensuring that patients have access to the most current, evidence-based information in a readily understandable format is fundamental. Our guidelines not only explain treatment options and supportive care but also incorporate visual aids, glossaries, and tailored question prompts to facilitate meaningful conversations between patients and their healthcare teams.”

The NCCN Guidelines for Patients® are directly derived from the rigorously developed NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology®, which are widely regarded as the gold standard in oncology care globally. Unlike conventional clinical guidelines that primarily target healthcare professionals, these patient-centered resources translate complex oncological data into clear, actionable knowledge designed for diverse audiences. This initiative effectively bridges the communication gap between clinicians and patients, fostering an environment where informed decisions are accessible to all.

Currently, the NCCN Guidelines for Patients library encompasses more than 70 specialized guidebooks addressing the full spectrum of cancer care—ranging from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment modalities, and survivorship. Each guidebook undergoes a meticulous review process to ensure scientific accuracy and relevance, integrating the latest clinical findings reflective of the dynamic, multidisciplinary nature of oncology. These resources acknowledge the heterogeneity of cancer as a disease and underscore the importance of personalized care pathways.

Accessibility remains a core pillar of the NCCN’s educational mission. All patient guidelines are freely available for download on NCCN’s dedicated patient platform and via mobile applications, underwritten by the generous support of the NCCN Foundation. This commitment to open access ensures that barriers related to cost or technology do not impede the dissemination of life-enhancing knowledge. The multilingual availability—currently 81% of the guidebooks in English and Spanish, supplemented by 11 additional languages—addresses the global and multicultural dimensions of cancer care.

The clinical impact of adhering to NCCN Guidelines in oncology is well documented; practices following these evidence-based protocols consistently demonstrate improved clinical outcomes, enhanced survival rates, and optimized resource utilization. Equally significant is the role of patient guidelines in facilitating health literacy and patient autonomy. By clarifying treatment options and prognostic expectations in an empathetic and straightforward manner, the NCCN patient resources empower individuals to advocate for evidence-aligned, personalized treatment strategies tailored to their unique clinical profiles and personal values.

In 2025 alone, NCCN Guidelines for Patients reached unparalleled engagement levels, with over 2.1 million users leveraging the content and more than 2.6 million downloads worldwide. These figures underscore the critical need for trusted health information outside clinical settings. Recognizing this, NCCN has resolved to accelerate the update frequency to an annual refresh cycle, ensuring that developments in cancer diagnostics, therapeutics, and supportive care modalities are promptly incorporated to maintain the relevance and clinical rigor of these guides.

Furthermore, Patrick Delaney, Executive Director of NCCN Foundation, emphasized the broader community impact of these resources. “Our vision extends to supporting cancer patients and their networks through partnerships with employers, faith communities, and local organizations. By equipping these stakeholders with authoritative tools, we aim to foster environments of care, resilience, and empowerment across the many spheres in which cancer touches lives.”

This transformative commitment by NCCN reflects a broader trend in oncology emphasizing precision medicine and patient-centered care models. Accessible, real-time dissemination of validated clinical knowledge is pivotal in reducing disparities and ensuring equitable access to best-in-class cancer management. By prioritizing clarity, cultural relevance, and evidence-based content, NCCN’s educational framework is set to transform the cancer care landscape in 2026 and beyond.

Interested individuals can explore and download the comprehensive collection of NCCN’s free patient-focused guidelines at NCCN.org/patients or through the NCCN mobile app. Those wishing to support this mission can find more information about contributing to these initiatives at NCCN.org/foundation. Together, these efforts underscore a shared commitment to fostering knowledge, hope, and equity in cancer care worldwide.
