Physical distance, far from being a mere spatial variable, emerges as a central determinant shaping the emotional and behavioral contours of digital misinformation landscapes during emergencies.

From a policy-making perspective, these insights bear significant implications. The study advocates for geographically informed misinformation regulation strategies, emphasizing that “one-size-fits-all” approaches fall short in the face of differentiated geographic risk profiles.
