Key Factors Influencing School Dropout in Türkiye

In recent years, the issue of school dropout rates among children has emerged as a significant concern in many countries, and Türkiye is no exception. A recent study sheds light on this pressing matter, specifically targeting children aged 5 to 17. Peer relationships and social dynamics within schools are another critical area of concern. Bullying, discrimination, and social isolation can profoundly impact a child’s experience in school. The emotional and psychological toll of such experiences can lead to high levels of stress and anxiety, resulting in children opting to leave school altogether. Addressing social issues within the school environment should be part of a comprehensive strategy to combat dropout rates, fostering a sense of community and belonging among students.

In light of the findings of this study, collaborative efforts between the government, educational institutions, and community organizations are essential. Engaging all stakeholders will create a robust support network that addresses the multifaceted nature of school dropout. Policies that incentivize school attendance, provide scholarships for lower-income families, and support at-risk students are vital components of a concerted effort to keep children in school.

The research also points toward the necessity of longitudinal studies to track the long-term consequences of school dropout rates on individual lives and society. By following cohorts of children over time, researchers can better understand the sustained impacts of educational disengagement. This data is invaluable for formulating strategic interventions that can break the cycle of dropout and promote lifetime learning and development.
