A researcher has proposed a practice-ready framework designed to make ethical commitments in educational artificial intelligence measurable and reviewable, moving beyond broad promises that AI will advance Sustainable Development Goal 4. The work, published in SN Social Sciences, argues that commitments to fairness, transparency and human agency require practical means of scrutiny, and it connects conceptual reflexivity and collective virtues with concrete, inspectable work for AI teams in education settings.

The framework draws on moral and digital hermeneutics, virtue ethics and responsible innovation to propose indicators, provisional thresholds and evidence artefacts. Among the proposed measures are a documentary Team Reflexivity Index, contextual measures of psychological safety and team climate, fairness metrics with locally justified bounds, and explanation assessment using the System Causability Scale. Documentation is handled through established artefacts including Model Cards, Datasheets and decision logs, giving teams a structured record of how systems were built and governed.

To tie these elements together, the author constructs an assurance case that links the proposed indicators and artefacts to selected functions of the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and to ISO/IEC guidance and requirements. This connection is intended to make it possible for reviewers, institutions and auditors to trace philosophical commitments about fairness, transparency and agency to specific, reviewable evidence rather than relying on aspirational statements alone.

A published university student success initiative provides the basis for a prospective conceptual illustration of how autonomy, explainability and efficiency could be defined and governed under the framework. The author is explicit that this illustration is prospective: the source reports institutional self-study and early design work, and the AI implementation, audit measures and templates developed in the paper are proposals rather than results from that initiative. No new empirical data or numerical demonstration is presented, and the framework’s feasibility and effectiveness remain to be evaluated in future implementation and research.
