An edited multidisciplinary volume reviews heterocyclic scaffolds, evaluation methods, emerging drug-design approaches and translational challenges in anticancer research.

A new edited book, Heterocyclic Chemistry in Oncology: Promising Agents and Novel Approaches, surveys the role of heterocyclic compounds in anticancer drug discovery and development. Edited by Smriti Dewangan, Anchal Verma and Varsha Rawat, the volume brings together perspectives from medicinal chemistry, molecular oncology, computational biology and pharmaceutical sciences. It covers the synthesis and biological evaluation of heterocyclic compounds, their structure–activity relationships, molecular targets and mechanisms of action, as well as approaches intended to support their translation into clinical applications.

The book begins with the fundamental principles of heterocyclic chemistry and cancer biology. It then examines major classes of bioactive heterocycles considered in anticancer research, including pyrimidines, imidazoles, triazoles, quinolines, indoles, pyrazoles, thiazoles and fused heterocyclic systems. Rather than reporting a single experiment, clinical trial or patient outcome, the volume presents a multidisciplinary overview of how these chemical scaffolds are investigated and evaluated within drug development.

Contemporary research methods form another major part of the edited collection. Chapters address molecular docking, artificial intelligence-assisted drug discovery, nanotechnology-enabled drug delivery, targeted therapies and kinase inhibitors. These methods are discussed as emerging approaches in heterocycle-based cancer research, not as demonstrated treatments. The book links synthetic chemistry with biological evaluation and translational research, covering established drug candidates as well as newer directions in the design and assessment of heterocycle-based therapeutics.

The editors also identify the challenges of translating promising compounds into clinical applications and consider areas for future research. The book does not provide new clinical evidence about any named agent or claim that one of the discussed methods has established a clinical benefit. Its intended audience includes medicinal chemists, pharmaceutical scientists, cancer researchers, academic faculty, and postgraduate students working in medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, drug discovery and oncology research. Published by Bentham Science Publishers, the volume functions as a research overview and reference work rather than an original clinical or experimental study.
