Across the synthesized studies, survivors described the fear of being seen as diminished — slower, less reliable, less committed — because of their medical history. The five themes, they conclude, can provide a foundational framework for future research to undertake deeper investigation of each individual theme, from the rehabilitation of treatment-related physical and cognitive impairment to the design of stigma-reduction programs.
