Fairfax, Va. — Registration is now open for the Society of Interventional Radiology's (SIR's) Annual Scientific Meeting, the world's most comprehensive interventional radiology meeting dedicated to improving patient care through research in image-guided, minimally invasive medicine. This year's meeting takes place April 2, 2016 through April 7, 2016 at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Expected to attract more than 5,000 doctors, researchers and allied health professionals, SIR 2016 features more than 250 scientific presentations and 125 companies unveiling their latest IR medical devices, products and services. Attendees will be equipped with current data on breakthrough treatments for numerous diseases and conditions including stroke, cancer, uterine fibroids, and venous and peripheral arterial disease.
"Many of the IR procedures that we perform today were first introduced in the scientific sessions at past SIR annual meetings," said Brian Funaki, MD, FSIR, the meeting's scientific program chair. "During this year's meeting, we will present the most current critical information about clinical trials, technical innovations and the basic science at the foundation of our specialty."
In addition to learning about life-changing scientific findings and treatment innovations, this year's meeting will also offer the opportunity to collaborate with other disciplines through the "SIR Meets" gatherings, which feature multidisciplinary interactions with other specialties. Meanwhile, activities with international IR societies will explore innovation and lessons from around the world.
SIR 2016's general sessions feature the IR's top thought-leaders on major, often controversial, issues. This year's Dr. Charles T. Dotter Lecture, presented by Scott O. Trerotola, MD, FSIR, will explore how embracing competition can better IR patient care by spurring innovation.
"The ultimate goal of SIR 2016 is to provide inspiration and information about innovations that have the power to improve the care that interventional radiologists deliver," said Funaki, who is a professor of radiology and the vascular and interventional radiology section chief at the University of Chicago School of Medicine.
