CHICAGO, IL – Scholastica, a peer review and publishing platform for academic journals, announces the release of the first customizable website templates specifically for open access journals.

Scholastica's customizable journal website templates are designed to showcase journal content, provide a superior user experience, and enhance article discoverability (including automatic Google Scholar indexing). With Scholastica's customizable journal website templates, academic journal teams can easily setup and maintain a modern publication website without having to pay a web developer or learn advanced technical skills.

"Scholastica feels very 21st century," said Anthony Bonato, editor-in-chief of Internet Mathematics a journal websites beta partner. "Our website on Scholastica provides a clean, modern take on a journal website."

Internet Mathematics started using Scholastica for peer review and publishing in January 2017 after the journal flipped from a subscription Taylor & Francis publication to an independent open access journal. The journal chose to follow in the footsteps of Discrete Analysis and embrace the arXiv overlay model.

For Bonata and his team, Scholastica journal websites provided an easy and affordable way to get a website off the ground without having to hire a website developer or learn to code.

Scholastica's journal website templates and publishing functionality are integrated with its peer review platform, which has also proven invaluable for Bonata and his co-editors. As a small team handling all aspects of the publication of Internet Mathematics, they've been able to streamline their workflow with Scholastica seamlessly moving manuscripts from peer review to publishing.

Other journal website beta partners include:

  • Discrete Analysis
  • Journal of New Librarianship
  • Central Asian Journal of Water Research

Scholastica journal websites are made for desktop and mobile and feature built-in metadata and automatic Google Scholar indexing for all articles. Once out of beta, the websites will also include readership analytics that journals can use to track their performance. The journal websites have a sleek design that will work for publications in any discipline.

Using a simple website editor, journals can:

  • Choose website colors and upload a logo
  • Create sections for different article types
  • Upload images to accompany articles or use the included image gallery

Scholastica started working on journal-specific website templates to help OA journals get off the ground quickly and have a modern web presence at an affordable price.

"We're on a mission to lower the barriers to entry to publish open access journals, and ultimately make academic journal publishing easier, more modern, and more affordable," said Scholastica Co-Founder and CEO Brian Cody.
