Pinpoint creation of chirality by organic catalysts

(Institute of Transformative Bio-Molecules (ITbM), Nagoya University) A team of chemists at Nagoya University has developed a new catalytic system that enables highly stereoselective synthesis of amino acid derivatives. A slight structural change in this amino acid-derived organic catalyst leads to pinpoint inversion of stereochemistry. This strategy is expected to become a powerful tool to synthesize various molecules that contain multiple stereocenters in high selectivity and efficiency.
