The full parallel programme for the World Conference of Science Journalists in Medellín, Colombia is now live! The 24 sessions across five tracks have been published on the WCSJ 2023 website as well as the details of the themes for the plenaries – though these are yet to be announced.

To coincide with the programme announcement, the organisers are extending the early bird rate to the end of January to allow journalists more time to take advantage of the special rate.

Those who register now will save up to $100 USD off the admission rate to WCSJ23, and prices go up February 1.

Ximena Serrano Gil, director of the WCSJ Medellín conference says: “Colombia is a magical land, its colors, rhythms, biodiversity and warmth of its people have positioned it as one of the world’s attractions to visit. The New York Times last week pointed out Medellín as one of the best destinations for this year, so do not miss this great opportunity to enjoy the magic that this WCSJ will have and register soon to secure your place and attractions.”

The programme is organised into five themes:

  • Track 1: Science immersion: Direct access to scientific sources for stories
  • Track 2: On responsible reporting: Practical discussion of ethical challenges
  • Track 3: New challenges to explore: Deep-dives on how to better serve and find new audiences
  • Track 4: North/South: To a new global dialogue in the 21st century, Science content and professional development with a global view
  • Track 5: Our craft: tools of the trade: New perspectives on how to develop as professional

The nine plenaries, still to be announced, will fall under the following categories: Biodiversity, Amazonia, Trust in Science, Climate Change, Emerging Disease, Indigenous Science, Indigenous Diplomacy, Science Diplomacy and Open Science.

WCSJ 2023, Medellín takes place from March 27-31. There will be pre-conference workshops and post conference tours and excursions to take advantage of.

This is the first time the conference has returned to Latin America since the founding of the World Federation of Science Journalists in 2002 at WCSJ São José dos Campos, Brazil. The organisers are looking forward to extending a warm welcome to all who attend.
