New imaging technique reveals vulnerability of coral reefs

(University of Hawaii at Manoa) In a study published today in PLOS ONE, researchers from the University of Hawaii, University of California-Irvine and University of Lincoln created a novel method using µCT (micro-computed tomography) scans to expose how bioerosion and secondary accretion of corals — critical processes for reef sustainability — respond to varying environmental conditions, including changing ocean acidity.
