New Australian research centre applying 2D materials to computational energy issue

(ARC Centre of Excellence in Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies) A new Australian research center addresses the growing issue of computational energy use.Computation is burning more than 5 percent of global electricity, and that's doubling each decade.Already, each smartphone burns more energy than the household fridge.Without a 'beyond CMOS' solution, energy will become the limiting factor on further computational growth in the next one or two decades.FLEET is an Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence tackling that challenge using '2D' materials, and topological insulators.
