MossRehab’s Sheer Gait & Motion Analysis Laboratory receives full accreditation

For the third time, The Sheerr Gait and Motion Analysis Lab at MossRehab's Elkins Park campus has received full accreditation from the Commission for Motion Laboratory Accreditation, Inc. for demonstrating the highest level of clinical and technical competency analysis, resulting in the best patient care available from a facility engaged in the evaluation of individuals with gait and motion challenges.

The only lab of its kind in the Philadelphia region, the Sheer Gait and Motion Analysis Lab is one of only ten gait labs in the country to hold this accreditation.

"We very proudly receive this accreditation as it recognizes the high quality work done in the Sheer Gait & Motion Analysis Laboratory by all of its staff , and our commitment to excellence in patient care " said Dr. Alberto Esquenazi, MD, the Chief Medical Officer of MossRehab and director of the gait lab. "MossRehab holds itself to just as high a standard today as we did when we were one of the first labs to receive this accreditation seven years ago."

Specifically, the Sheerr Gait and Motion Analysis Lab helps physicians identify the causes of ambulation problems and helps them make recommendations for specific treatments.

Tests conducted at the Gait and Motion Analysis Laboratory include:

  • Gait profile to measure spatial and temporal patterns of walking without patient instrumentation
  • Slow-motion video, which provides frame-by-frame analysis of walking or performing other activities
  • Force vector analysis, to measure force applied to joints while walking and standing
  • Weight-bearing analysis to evaluate a patient's ability to apply weight to legs while standing, walking, running or lifting
  • EMG analysis evaluates up to 32 muscles during walking or motion
  • Foot forces evaluation to analyze force applied during walking, with and without shoes and orthoses
  • Computerized, three-dimensional, quantitative measurements of: joint movement, including range, direction, velocity, and acceleration; limb position; joint forces, movements and powers.
  • Computer simulation assessments of walking
  • Evaluation under diagnostic temporary blocks
