The issues of three of the American Psychiatric Association’s journals, The American Journal of Psychiatry, Psychiatric Services, and The American Journal of Psychotherapy, are now available online.

The January issue of The American Journal of Psychiatry focuses on childhood- and neurodevelopment-related psychiatric disorders. Insights from the issue include:

  • In Search of Biomarkers to Guide Interventions in Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Systematic Review.
  • The Autism Biomarkers Consortium for Clinical Trials: Initial Evaluation of a Battery of Candidate EEG Biomarkers.
  • The Link Between Autism and Sex-Related Neuroanatomy, and Associated Cognition and Gene Expression.
  • Prevalence and Penetrance of Rare Pathogenic Variants in Neurodevelopmental Psychiatric Genes in a Health Care System Population.

The American Journal of Psychiatry’s January AJP Audio podcast features a discussion with Stefanie Russman Block, Ph.D., about her study of pretreatment brain scans of adolescents and adults with OCD that found that the way certain brain regions talk to one another at rest predicted how well patients would respond to 3 months of psychotherapy.

The January issue of Psychiatric Services features:

  • Racial Disparities in Psychiatric Decisional Capacity Consultations.
  • Low-Barrier Buprenorphine Treatment for People Experiencing Homelessness.
  • Training Health Care Professionals in Suicide Assessment, Management, and Treatment.
  • Two viewpoints discussing universal suicide screening: one calling it feasible and necessary and the other encouraging the continuation of indicated or selected screening.
  • Personal Account: Tracking the Medication History of Persons With Serious Mental Disorders.

Also online now is Volume 75, Issue 4 of The American Journal of Psychotherapy, which features the following:

  • How We Got Here: The Demise of Psychotherapy Clinical Trials in America.
  • Using the Achievement of Therapeutic Objectives Scale to Operationalize “Unlocking” of the Unconscious.
  • Comparing Heart Rate Analytical Methods to Examine Engagement During Imaginal Prolonged Exposure Therapy.
  • Politics and Religion: Revisiting Psychotherapy’s Third Rail.
  • Technological Advances in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Clinical Practice.
