Eye exams using lighted, hand-held instruments now done infrequently, study finds

(Loyola University Health System) An eye exam called that direct funduscopy, which can detect eye problems and neurological conditions, is being performed infrequently, a Loyola study has found. In not performing direct funduscopy, valuable clinical information may be missed, researchers said.
