CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The climate is changing, the change is occurring now and it is happening extremely rapidly, researchers report.
University of Illinois atmospheric science professor Donald Wuebbles will moderate a session highlighting new evidence that validates the findings of the November 2017 federal Climate Science Special Report at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Austin, Texas. The symposium "Informing Mitigation and Adaptation Options with the Climate Science Special Report" will start at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in room 19A of the Austin Convention Center.
The session will feature individual talks from Climate Science Special Report lead authors Katharine Kayhoe, Robert Knapp and Ben Sanderson, who will share recent advances in climate science and climate change impact in the U.S. "The aim of this session is for several authors of the first volume of the 4th National Climate Assessment to highlight the assessment findings and their implications for solutions and policy considerations," Wuebbles said.
The presenters will be available to the news media at 11 a.m. Feb. 18 at the AAAS newsroom headquarters, located in Room 7 on Level 3 of the Austin Convention Center.
