The Second European Physics Olympiad, a contest among school students, will be held in May 2018. This time, the event is hosted by the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

Russian Education Minister Olga Vasilyeva welcomed the decision to hold the olympiad in one of the country's leading technical universities: "Teams representing Russia participate in eight annual international contests on a regular basis. They consistently show positive results and take top places. This year, the Russian team, trained by MIPT professors, won five gold medals at the International Physics Olympiad. I am convinced that hosting the European Physics Olympiad in Russia will promote interest in the exact sciences, particularly physics, among Russian school students."

MIPT Rector Nikolay Kudryavtsev, who chairs the organizing committee, emphasized the role of the event in promoting Russian education in science and technology as a magnet for the most talented students from across the globe: "The European physics community is well aware of our long-standing tradition of physics contests for students, which goes back to the Soviet era. The competence of MIPT professors, our expertise in staging events for school students, and the availability of state-of-the-art infrastructure on campus enable us to manage the contest on a duly high level. This is evidenced by the positive feedback that we received following the 18th Asian Physics Olympiad in May, which was also organized by MIPT."
